Hi, I'm Turk

Some greyhounds are very social, and take new experiences and people in their stride.  Some greyhounds... not so much.

Turk is one of the more reserved greyhounds.  He's shy, but not a spook.  He worries about changes, and new people and places.  It doesn't take long, though, and he starts to show his very sweet side.  This boy wants very much to love and be loved.  He's just not confident, so his first impression will never be able to compete with the more social easy-going hounds.

On the way here he was very interested in where he was going and what was happening.

He arrived panting, shaking, and unwilling to let me approach him at all.

In an hour, he was laying down.

In 2 hours he was wagging his tail.

In 3 hours he came up to me on his own looking for attention.

In another hour, he decided my nap was unnecessary and he kept jumping on me to put his front legs on my tired body to get me up!!  Whoa!!

After that he ate a normal dinner.

And in the evening he carried a stuffie around the den.

Meanwhile, he met my own hounds and there were virtually no problems at all.  He gets along very well with everyone... and it looks like he found a girlfriend!   (Teaser for his next blog!!!)

Turk has been here just a little over 24 hrs now, and he has settled very well.  He's still not completely at home.  I have to approach him slowly.  I have to take him to his food dish at meal time.  BUT, he comes when called, mastered the stairs very fast, slept well all night, comes for attention when I'm cuddling my own hounds, and follows me from room to room.

This is a pretty good sense of how he'll settle into his adoptive home.  He wants so much to fit in and to be loved.  He'll never be a great M&G dog, and will do best in a quiet stable home, I think.  In that setting, this boy will blossom.  He's a lover at heart and Turk is going to be someone's very best friend!!!
